Description:  Butte, Alaska is an old farming community from the Colony days of the 1930s. Today most residents commute to the Mat-Su valley or to Anchorage.

What to do there: Butte, Alaska is on the Matanuska River, and offers ample opportunities for four-wheeling.

The Reindeer Farm is close to Butte, Alaska. Visitors can hand feed reindeer.

History: Butte, Alaska was homesteaded in 1917 by John Bodenburg. In 1935 the area was settled by the Matanuska Colonists, and then further settled after World War II. For awhile, there were a few sawmills in operation.

How to get there:  Take the Old Glenn Highway exit off of the Glenn Highway north out of Anchorage.

Facilities:  Butte, Alaska does have fire and ambulance service, and a public airstrip.
